The UK Hip Hop Championships is the toughest most authentic hip hop dance event requiring nerves of steel. Mark has a great personality and although he had misgivings about dancing he is a perfect role model in many respects…

To further promote healthier lifestyles for kids, iDance teamed up with the BBC to challenge Mark Rhodes, a CBBC Presenter and former Pop Idol Contestant to enter the the iDance UK Hip Hop Crew Championships — Freestyle Battle, the UK Qualifier for the World Hip Hop Championships in America. The results of Mark’s “challenge” will be aired on BBC 2 April 2-6, as part of Mark and Sam’s goal to get one million kids to try something new before the end of the summer. You can see The BBC’s” Do something different “every morning April 2nd – 6th at 8:00am and repeating at 1:00pm on CBBC.

“I loved the idea” said Omar Paloma Chair of iDance Foundation and the UK Hip Hop Championships creator. “The UK Hip Hop Championships is about opportunity and reaching people outside of the mainstream. We also want to encourage people in the mainstream to “do something different” A freestyle Battle is typically a one on one dance-off pitting the freestyle skills of one dancer against another in a two minute battle.

From your local gym to Sadler’s Wells, hip hop dance is growing to be a happening dance form reaching a diverse population, that ballet, contemporary, disco and other traditional dance forms don’t appeal to. “Anyone of any shape or size can get involved” says Julie Paloma co-Director of iDance.

“The UK Hip Hop Championships is the toughest most authentic hip hop dance event requiring nerves of steel. Mark has a great personality and although he had misgivings about dancing he is a perfect role model in many respects… “He never gives up!”

“The beauty of the UK Hip Hop Championships and hip hop dance in general is anyone one up for the challenge can get involved.”

To further encourage kids to do something different iDance is offering any new student a free dance lesson at iDance http://www.idancestudios.com. “First class free” is a way of lowering the barrier to try something new. For information call 01923 606 255.
